Setting Student Assignment Goals

  • Goals are created based on a student’s scored assignment and are applied to the next assignment the student completes.

  • As students work through their assignment, they will see and interact with their assigned goals throughout the process. After the assignment is submitted, teachers can review the student’s progress toward their goal and decide whether to continue with the same goal or assign a new one.

  • Students can have one speaking goal and one writing goal assigned at a time.

Step by Step Instructions

  1. Begin by selecting the Grade tab under Assignments from the Teacher Dashboard

  2. Select Grade next to the assignment for the student.

  3. From the Speaking section scoring page, there is an option to add a speaking goal. Select Create to add a speaking goal.

Please note: A student can only be assigned one speaking goal at a time.

  4. Select an indicator, then select a goal from the dropdown menu.

  5. Once an indicator and goal have been selected, select Create Goal.

Please note: This goal will apply to the student’s next assignment and will be available immediately on the student’s dashboard under My Goals.

Predetermined goals may be used, or a custom goal may be created for a student. Any custom goals created will be saved in the dropdown menu for future use.

To create and assign a custom goal, select an indicator and scroll to the option to Add a Custom Goal. Enter the custom goal and include an example, if desired.

  6. To edit the goal, select Edit, then choose a different goal.

  7. When ready to move on to writing, select Next:Writing at the bottom of the page.

  8. From the Writing section scoring page, select Create to add a writing goal.

Please note: Only one writing goal can be assigned to a student at a time.

  9. Select an indicator, then select a goal from the dropdown menu.

Predetermined goals may be used, or a custom goal may be created for a student. Any custom goals created will be saved in the dropdown menu for future use.

To create and assign a custom goal, select an indicator and scroll to the option to Add a Custom Goal. Enter the custom goal and include an example, if desired.

  10. Once an indicator and goal have been selected, select Create Goal.

Please note: This goal will apply to the student’s next assignment and will be available immediately on the student’s dashboard under My Goals.

  11. To edit the goal, select Edit, then choose a different goal.

  12. Once scoring is complete and goals have been added, select Submit.

  13. Within the Teacher Dashboard, these goals will now be visible on a student's progress report under Current Goals

To find a student's progress report, select the Students tab on the navigation menu, then select the student's name.

  14. Within the student's dashboard, these goals will appear immediately under the section My Goals.

These goals will also be found in the next assignment that the student begins.

  15. Once the student completes the assignment, goal progress can be monitored and scored. The same goal may be reassigned, or a new goal may be created.

  16. Each time a new goal is assigned, this cycle begins again with the student’s next assignment.
